PostHeaderIcon Project management software in a distributed environment

Projects are able to attract talent from across the world and project managers are today working with team members located in far flung corners of the globe. Many project personnel feel it would be far more comfortable if team members were physically located together for more effective interaction. The advantage of having members in far-off places is that there is greater concentration on the work, and less room for personal rivalry and misunderstandings. Many project managers agree that the project work output is the same when individual team members are distantly placed - others do not.

It is a fact, today, that many standard templates and a host of project management tools exist to facilitate speedy implementation of projects. Still, many projects do not succeed because of time and cost overruns, and project members too quickly drifting away from goals and end objectives.

Many research studies have been done to diagnose the causes of, and suggest remedies for project failures. These studies have uniformly advocated more efficient project management methods, better use of communication channels, and greater interaction among all those involved; more serious stakeholder involvement and unstinted employee cooperation to minimize - if not altogether avert - project failures.

Some project management professionals argue – and rightly too - that the years 2009/2010 may prove disappointing for project management because of the sudden economic recession, credit squeeze, industrial stagnation, and a variety of other such hostile factors.

Adversity notwithstanding, it is expected that web-based services and Internet technologies will play a more constructive role the coming years. There is no denying that web-based project management software will offer more effective productivity tools for improved collaboration leading to a higher project success rate.

Therefore, if you work in a distributed environment, web-based project management software and web-based collaboration tools are strongly recommended. Effective project management software is the crying need of the hour, as technology keeps steadily advancing and the running of organizations becomes increasingly challenging.
